Business_Organization_layout_activity:

  • Select an organization structure / chart / layout.
  • Count the number of levels in the heirarchy.
  • Ex: If there are 6 basic levels, write each number on a sticky note and place them around the room.
  • Also write the numbers 1 through six on pieces of paper or note cards. If the organizational chart has one person at the very top, then write "1" on just one piece of paper. If the organizational chart has five people equally branching off the person at the top, then write "2" on five pieces of paper.
  • Have students pick one piece of paper as they enter the room.
  • When class starts have students match their numbers with the sticky note numbers (stand by matching number).
  • Have the student(s) in the "1" spot come to the front of the room and face the front wall.
  • Have the student(s) in the "2" spot come to the front of the room and fall in behind "1" in the structure you've chosen for this activity.
  • Same for student(s) in the "3" spot and so on.
  • Finally, show the organizational structure on the white board so students can see the layout they are standing in; and explain to them how ALL businesses have an organizational structure, and they've made one example.
  • I recommend one of the assignments for your students is to research local businesses to discover their organizational structure; have class discussion when assignment is due.

Actual activity can be a 5min exercise, but only if you know and understand the Johari Window concept ahead of time.
Basis of this activity is to discover 'blind-area' knowledge in order to decrease the size of that box (therefore, increasing open/free area).

Really neat activity to do individually (then compare at end of 5min.), or in teams of 2 or 3. For our purposes we will conduct this activity indivually. The topic: (your) personal views about MBE411; your current perspective & how you prefer it.

TOO FUN!

Excellent activity in connecting students with what they bring to the classroom. Can be used for any topic. This one is management responsibilities.
